Our History

On December 1st, 1986, Elroy and Carol Koch bought the Gulf Bulk Plant in Three Hills, Alberta from Carol’s parents, Ray and May Johnson. Ray and May had owned the plant since 1979, deciding to sell it to Elroy and Carol shortly after Petro-Canada™ bought Gulf Canada Ltd. in 1985. Koch Fuel Products Inc. has helped keep the wheels of Canadian industry turning ever since.

Starting with only two single-axle trucks and one part-time employee, Koch has grown to eight bulk plants and 11 cardlock locations. Since the beginning, Koch Fuel has been raising the bar for Albertan fuel distributors.

Elroy Koch

Elroy, along with his wife Carol, has owned and operated Koch Fuel Products Inc. since 1986. In 2005, he received the Petro-Canada™ President’s Award for Business Excellence. He has also won the Petro-Canada™ Lubricants Challenge Award for Outstanding Lubricant Sales four times.

Prior to founding Koch Fuel, Elroy served for eight years as the Parts Manager of a GM dealership in Three Hills, Alberta, where he earned the GM Superstars Trip award. 

When he’s not working, Elroy keeps involved in his community. He coaches hockey in the winter, lacrosse and softball in the summer, and stays active in the local church, where he plays bass guitar in the worship team.

A real car buff, he is a dedicated member of the Three Hills Street Freaks Car Club, which has hosted the “Annual Cruise Night Show and Shine” in Three Hills for over 30 years.
